Maine Credit Unions' Ending Hunger Walking Tour Concludes Eighth Annual, Successful, Emotional Journey.

On Tuesday December 1, the Eighth Annual Maine Credit Unions’ Ending Hunger Walking Tour celebrated its conclusion with a special ceremony at EMMC FCU in Bangor. Brenda Davis, Executive Director of Cross Roads Ministries and Food Pantry, completed her month-long journey despite being injured by an explosion caused by her gas fireplace.

On Sunday, November 22, Brenda suffered a concussion and numerous cuts and bruises in an accident caused by her gas fireplace. Despite the accident, Brenda only missed one day on the road, calling the Tour, “a place for me to recover.”

Brenda visited�University Credit Union's�Farmington branch on November 19^th and was presented with donations of $125 for Cross Roads Ministries and $500 for Care and Share Food Cupboard. On December 1, Brenda visited UCU's Orono branch where she was presented a donation of over $1900 for Cross Roads Ministries. University Credit Union�employees Hallie Gardner and Shelley Glidden joined Brenda for the last part of her walk.

This year’s Tour visited the most communities in its history, encompassing more than 650 miles, and visiting a record-setting 62 communities from Kittery to Madawaska. The Tour visited every Maine county for the fourth consecutive year. In all, Maine’s credit unions contributed nearly $30,000 to ending hunger during the Walking Tour.

In its eight years, the Tour has raised and contributed more that $170,000 to the cause of ending hunger, with Maine’s credit unions contributing more than $155,000 of that total.

Since 1990, the Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger has raised over $3.1 million to help end hunger in Maine.
